Costs related to a first offence for driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs

Costs to obtain a new licence (depending on whether it is a 1st, 2nd or 3rd offence or more within 10 years)$300.00 to $400.00
Fine for driving during a penalty period imposed under the Highway Safety Code$1,500.00 to $3,000.00, in addition to the cost of a 30-day or 90-day (depending on the situation) seizure and impoundment of the vehicle

Total cost of a first offence: A minimum of $1,750.00, in addition to the following numerous inconveniences and variable expenses:

  • Increased personal automobile insurance premiums
