Contrary to what many people think, the Criminal Code does not only prohibit driving while under the influence of alcohol and \/ or drugs, but also by having possession and control of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some situations where the consequences are the same as for driving while impaired:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be seated in the driver&#8217;s seat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, in possession of the keys, even if the vehicle is not functioning;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be in his vehicle &#8211; even asleep in the back seat &#8211; and to be able to put it into operation (have the keys in his possession).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In each similar situation, the police officer will assess the possibility and the intent of the person.
